We all know that change can’t happen if leaders don’t lead it; if they fail to set out a clear vision, if they fail to engage their people, if they fail to role model the change, then it is doomed to failure. But there is more to it than that.
Leaders are human beings too and so prone to the same fears and anxieties as everyone else when it comes to change. In fact, they often have more to gain by maintaining the status quo than the rest of us.
Worse still, many leaders have limited understanding of how to successfully handle the impact of change on people or may simply be ignorant of the disastrous consequences of ignoring the human factor.
So there is a leadership triple lock on change: Lack of awareness of the impact of change plus lack of will to be part of the change plus a lack of capability to leader change effectively.
To have a successful change you need to unpick this lock. Good luck!
