If you want something to make you smile try this video: The Trouble with Change is…
The video sums up The 5 Forces of Change approach to change management. It has had nearly 10,000 views and is used by several large organizations as part of their change management training. It is based on a comedy sketch from 1966 by John Cleese, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett.
Uncertainty, lack of clear direction, loss of control, the need to sever old ties and climb a learning curve are the most common reasons why change fails to deliver on its promises. The answer is to work with the grain of human nature.
In a rapidly changing world, organisations that fail to adapt risk being left behind or disappearing altogether. At the same time, significant planned organisational change is hard to achieve; the best laid plans can all too easily be undermined by poor design, insufficient resources or ineffective project management. However, the key determinant of success is the perception of the people involved in the change; a perception rooted in human psychology.
Managers who can lead and implement organizational change in a way that is in tune with people’s psychology needs engage them rather than alienate them, greatly increasing the likelihood of achieving successful outcomes.
