She was a seasoned government benefits administrator, trying to get to grips with a new computer system; the first she had ever experienced. This was a few years BCM – Before Change Management. Fast forward to 2024 and we have the prospect of the Return of Technophobia: Leading AI Edition.
While the fear of computer systems might seem outdated, it’s making a comeback, this time in the form of AI. But we’ve learned a lot since those day. While training remains crucial, a fundamental shift in our approach to change is even more important.
When Leading AI instead of worrying about resistance to change (like the Execs in the attached survey), let’s focus on eliminating its root causes. When leading AI ask yourself:
- What’s our compelling vision for AI adoption?
- What will people gain, lose, and keep in this transition?
- How can we empower people to actively participate in shaping the AI future?
- Who are our early adopters, and how can we leverage their influence?
- How can we help people let go of old habits and embrace new ways of working?
- How can we use this AI transition to foster a more agile culture?
